LBB Review: Dollface Mineral Makeup
Posted on 04 September 2015
Welcome to the first ever entry into Fashionlife's Little Black Book. Here you will find out all our best hair, makeup, beauty and style secrets! Beginning with Dollface Mineral Makeup tried and tested by Paige. Here is what she had to say:
As Fashionlife NZ’s leading makeup artist, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to test out a few products from one of New Zealand’s very own mineral makeup lines; Dollface Mineral Makeup.
If you’ve never heard of Dollface; they’re a makeup and skincare company that handcraft and manufacture some fantastic cosmetics, all personally formulated by Debbie in the Hutt Valley. The highest quality ingredients are used in her products to ensure each customer has the best experience when using Dollface Mineral Makeup and I was certainly blown away by the quality of the products that I got to try out.
The first product I got was an HD Mineral powder, in the lightest shade? (I'm guessing as there was no colour shade on the packaging) it was pretty light. Perfect for my pale complexion!
So, I’ve used this a few times now. I apply it with a large fluffy brush over my foundation and concealer to set everything in place for the day, and I found it was perfect for that. Usually I like a translucent powder to set my base products but I actually really like that this powder gives a little extra coverage as it means I don’t have to wear as thicker layer of foundation underneath but my blemishes are still able to be hidden. Being that it is a loose powder, it can be a little messy but this is to be expected with a mineral product. Definitely no downside to this, so far and at $33 this is a great finishing product!
Next, I got a few eyeshadows to play with; I got Peacock, Bronzed and Apricot Fever.
After playing around with these eye shadows Bronzed was my favourite. As you'll see in the swatches this is definitely the most pigmented of the 3. Peacock and Apricot Fever take a little bit of building but with a little patience they really pop. This is also great if you only want a delicate hint of eyeshadow! I always use an eyeshadow primer or base with any shadow that I apply, and I would definitely recommend using one with these as it really helps getting a great colour pay off and ensures the shadow stays all day.
As you can see in the photos the eye look I've done using the 'Bronzed' shade, this shadow is just beautiful and I love it next to my blue eyes as it really makes them pop! If you have a special occasion coming up or even just need an everyday go to shade this is it! These shades are priced at only $20.50 which makes them a great addition to any makeup bag!
And finally, there were 3 lipsticks for me to try.
Pout – A browny, beige colour
Sweetheart – A very bright, purply pink
And Snakebite – Deep, plumy red (My definite favourite and not just because it has a great name)
As an avid lippy lover, I was veeery excited to try these out and I was immediately impressed by both the formula and the pigmentation. The application of these lipsticks is dreamy; they glide so smoothly on the lip and have a really nice creamy texture once applied. Again, the colour payoff is really nice with these lipsticks, as you can see in the swatches above. I work with great products every day and it is a challenge to find something that really wows me but this product is a 10/10! Plus as an added incentive ladies these lippys are priced $31.50 - trust me they are worth every penny!
A big thanks to Debbie for sending these lovely products to me - I am still swooning over these lippys! If you love any of these products you will also love the fact that they are EU certified (no animal testing), are perfect for sensitive skin and if they delete your favourite shade (say for example a certain bronze eyeshadow) they keep their recipes and can custom make a product for you!
