Designer Spotlight: Lucy Mcintosh
Posted on 19 September 2015
Have you ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a fashion designer? Well wonder no more as we interview some of our favourite designers and introduce you to the designers behind the names you love!
This week we are talking to the ever talented Lucy Mcintosh fresh from her first showing at New Zealand Fashion week. Lucy’s collection is a favourite here at Fashionlife and just between us her A/W/15 collection is equally dauntless and stunning! We wanted to know a little more about the designer behind this alternative and edgy brand and here’s what Lucy had to say!
Can you describe the Lucy McIntosh brand in five words?
Androgynous, classic, structured, simple, edgy
Tell us about the inspiration for your latest collection
The latest collection ( Spring/Summer 2014/15) collection is called ‘Shadows in Space’, a reference to the way in which shadows are cast onto the human form in the everyday. It’s the complex interplay between these shadows and the clothes we wear that was the founding moment for ‘Shadows in Space.’ Fittingly, black features prominently in the collection. It is broken up with the subtle use of sheer monochromes, delicate prints, and one bold colour statement; a rich ochre yellow. By layering these fabrics to create the illusion of shadow, and using fabric texturing to highlight the contrast between shadow and light, created a wearable collection that has stayed true to my original idea.
What is the best piece of fashion advice you have ever been given?
Less is more (in terms of styling, not length)
How do you bring style to your life everyday?
Day to day I usually just rock a pair of jeans and a Lucy McIntosh top. There is something stylish about having a nice pair of jeans paired with a Lucy McIntosh top. The casual yet sophisticated feel.
I do a lot of running around to my manufacturers and fabric suppliers in my day to day life so I need to feel comfortable in what I wear. One thing I will never sacrifice, is shoes. I don't think I have worn flats (apart from when working out) in years!
What’s next for Lucy McIntosh?
So many things! We have a few things planned for the next 12 months but telling you now would ruin the surprise!
We hope you enjoyed getting to know the designer behind the brand stay tuned for more Fashionlife Designer Spotlights coming soon!
