Designer Spotlight: Itzme
Posted on 10 November 2015
Have you ever wanted to know what it's like to be a fashion designer? Well wonder no more as we interview some of our favourite designers and introduce you to the designers behind the names that you love!
We are very excited to be welcoming ITZME to the Fashionlife family and what better way to introduce this modern, artistic and edgy brand than by talking to Syza Zhang the creative behind the creations. Fresh from her first ever showing at New Zealand Fashion Week and bringing a breath a fresh, androgynous street wear air to Fashionlife we had to know more about the inspiration behind the ITZME brand!
Can you describe the ITZME brand in five words?
Fresh, unisex, freedom, personality, new
Tell us about the inspiration for your latest collection
The latest collection "On the Street" 14/15 is inspired by a narrative from the fierce creativity, innocence and unguarded self expression captured through the lens of photographer Amy Arbus. From 14th Street and Houston, Broadway to Alphabet City, Arbus documented the anonymous fashion icons of the 1980's New York for the Village Voice. This collection is a reinterpretation and refinement, capturing the atmosphere and elements of the subject, using the viewpoint of the outsider as a prism to project my re-imagined vision.
You showed for the first time at NZ Fashion Week this year can you tell us a little bit about what this experience was like?
I called three weeks before the show started to ask whether I could show at NZFW, and thankfully they said yes. I was very excited and nervous to see my design out there, especially as it's new to the catwalk. It felt like a school exam or waiting for my school report.
What is the best piece of fashion advice you have ever been given?
"Style is wearing an evening dress to McDonald's, wearing heels to play football. It is personality, confidence and seduction"
- John Galliano
How do you bring style to your life every day?
If I don't have any meetings that day I will only wear pajamas and slippers to work in my studio, and even to go to the supermarket but if I am going to a party, then I wear the highest heels with the hottest dress!
What's next for ITZME?
Very exciting news! I am going to present my second collection at the Hong Kong World Boutique Show in January 2015! I am looking forward to seeing my designs out there!
We love Syza's bold and refreshing attitude towards fashion and who can argue with the comfort of working in Pj's?! Look for more of the stunning ITZME collection coming soon to Fashionlife and to keep up with all the latest ITZME news you can find them on Facebook!
