NZFW: Sean Kelly
Posted on 10 November 2015
Models walked the runway weaving around mirror posts set up in the centre of the runway. A collection of clothing unlike any other showing this year, Sean Kelly’s range consisted of lingerie inspired looks, beautifully tailored gowns and avant garde styled outfits.
Starting out with a light and pastel colour palette and eventually graduating into a darker palette with pops of red, models wore a sophisticated up do and darker makeup to suit the theme of the night. Staring blankly at their own reflections in the mirrors, the models all froze at the end of the show - adding a unique theatrical aspect to the show, not seen by any other designer this year.
Kelly, who won hit reality show ‘Project Runway’, aimed to show a conceptual, art-based collection rather than a strictly commercial range - although every look that graced the catwalk could easily be pulled from the magazine pages and was incredibly wearable. Now based in New York, Kelly’s show was a rare viewing of his collection on our shores - and he will be showing at New York Fashion Week later this month.
A definite highlight of this year - we’re excited to see what the young designer comes up with next.
